The stage of Broadway has lost one of its shining stars. Hinton Battle, the famed actor and singer, has passed away at the age of 67.

Hinton Battle: A Broadway Legend
Battle is most notably remembered for his portrayal of the Scarecrow in the 1975 Broadway musical The Wiz. This memorable role was later reprised by Michael Jackson in the movie adaptation.
Battle's talents didn't remain confined to the theatre stage. In 2006, he made an appearance in the movie Dreamgirls, playing alongside Jennifer Hudson. Hudson recently paid tribute to Battle on social media, reflecting the respect and admiration that he commanded in the industry.
Award-Winning Performances
Battle's accolades bear testament to his skill and dedication. He was nominated for both a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and Critics' Choice award for his role in Dreamgirls.
His work wasn't just recognised in nominations, he was a three-time Tony Award winner. He won these for his performances in Sophisticated Ladies in 1981, The Tap Dance Kid in 1984, and Miss Saigon in 1991.

Battle's talents extended beyond the theatre and film. He notably made an impact on the small screen, most particularly in the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer aired in 2001. He didn't just perform in the episode, but also lent his talents to choreographing it.
