Mark your calendars for February 24 as the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall in Los Angeles will radiate with the glitz and glamour of the 30th annual SAG Awards, set to stream on Netflix. This highly anticipated event is distinguished, being the first SAG Awards since the landmark SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Nominees and the Unusual
Among those vying for the prestigious SAG Awards are Paul Giamatti, Cillian Murphy, Lily Gladstone, and more. In a departure from the norm, the SAG Awards will proceed without a host. Originating in 1995, this unique tradition was briefly suspended in 2018 and 2019, having Kristen Bell and Megan Mullally serve as hosts, respectively. The decision to abandon having a host was largely driven by the positive response to the 2019 Oscars sans a host and the intention to confine the event to two hours.
Presenters and Lifetime Achievement Award
While the event may lack a host, the show demands attention with its roster of star-studded presenters. From a pool of 30 presenters, the ceremony will be kickstarted by Idris Elba, while Jennifer Aniston will be commemorating Barbra Streisand with the much-deserved Lifetime Achievement Award. Notably, ambassadors Phil Dunster and Taylor Zakhar Perez will be among the presenters ushering in a night of celebration and recognition. An illustrious set of presenters including Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Margot Robbie, Michael Cera, Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Sterling K. Brown, Tracee Ellis Ross, and Jeffrey Wright will also grace the stage.
The Awards
Awards night will culminate in the bestowment of 13 awards, the recipients of which are chosen by the actors themselves. As the day approaches, anticipation builds to see who will be recognized for their outstanding performances in a year marked by exceptional performances.
