Syrian War Daily – 5th of October 2018

Hello and welcome to the 568th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:


Hayat Tahrir al-Sham shelled and stormed the city of Kafr Halab, in an attempt to arrest Al-Jabhat al-Wataniya lil-Tahrir’s (National Liberation Front) commander, Raed al-Abdu. As Hayat Tahrir al-Sham was storming Kafr Halab, hundreds of civilians demonstrated against the group’s actions. Reports claimed that five civilians were killed and several wounded by today’s events in Kafr Halab. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s Ibaa News Agency claimed that several elements of Al-Jabhat al-Wataniya lil-Tahrir were arrested during today’s clashes.


Islamic State’s sleeper cell attacked Jaysh al-Ahrar’s headquarters in the village of Al-Talhiya in eastern Idlib. Jaysh al-Ahrar was able to repel the attack, reportedly killing several elements of the Islamic State.

Deir al-Zour:

Syrian Democratic Forces’ Media Center released a report regarding today’s advances and encounters with the Islamic State in the governorate;

1-AL-Baguoz axis: Our fighters attacked terrorist positions in the afternoon, violent engagements broke out, killing a number of terrorists. Our forces made progress on the ground and expelled the terrorists. The terrorist organization re-launched a counter-attack. Our fighters confronted them and forced them to retreat.

Concurrently with progress on this axis, the Coalition raided into several terrorist locations, targeting one of the car bombs, which was completely destroyed, but the number of terrorists killed was not known. Coalition artillery also shelled two other booby-trapped vehicles, killing them.

This axis witnessed intermittent engagements from time to time, interspersed with mutual shelling with mortars and heavy machine guns.

2-Hajin axis: This axis witnessed violent engagements between our fighters and terrorists, “Daesh”, and our fighters were able to achieve progress and the expulsion of terrorists and install (6) new points. They also launched a combing operation in the area and seized a quantity of weapons and ammunition, in addition to bombing two mines planted by the terrorists in the area.

The terrorist organization attempted to carry out an attack on our fighters’ points by means of small reconnaissance planes to detect the concentrations of our forces. Our fighters were able to shoot down a reconnaissance aircraft, which fell into the hands of our forces.

The axis also witnessed intermittent engagements, accompanied by mortar shelling.

3- Al-Sousse axis: After three days of fierce fighting by our forces against terrorists, the village of Mozan was liberated near Sousse town and the terrorists were expelled. The engineering teams are opening their roads and cleaning it.

–4- The outcome of the engagements:

– Points installed: / 6 / points.

– Number of terrorist deaths: /38 / Terrorist.

– Number of terrorists arrested by our forces: (3) Terrorists.

– Terrorist losses: destruction of mortar, warehouse for the production of explosives, destruction / 3 / car bombs, destruction of a site where terrorists were holed up, destruction of two bulldozers.

– Weapons seized by our fighters: RBG/2/, 1 M16 weapon, 1 Kalashnikov number 6, Bkc- Ammo , reconnaissance aircraft.

– The mines fired by our fighters: two mines.

– Coalition air strikes : / 8 / strikes.

Faryab Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three and wounded five elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) in Pashtun Kot district.

Kunar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five elements of the Islamic State in Ghaziabad district.

Herat Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Shindand district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 12 and wounded seven elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Andar district.

Zabul Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device killed two elements of the Afghan National Security Forces in Pul Sangi area of Qalat district. Separately, an Afghan National Army’s element was killed by an Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper in Gajoy area of Shah Joy district.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed a fighting position in Kajaki district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed and wounded 12 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces in Marjah and Nad Ali districts.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed six and wounded four elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed a vehicle and four motorcycles in Maywand district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan National Army’s post in Khushk Rod area of Arghistan district. Two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were killed in the encounter. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized two pickups, three motorcycles, a DShK heavy machine gun, two PK machine guns, two RPG launchers, two assault rifles, and a pistol from the post.


CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
