Syrian War Daily – 16th of May 2018

Al-Hasakah:

Vehicle-borne improvised explosive device exploded on a road in the city of Al-Qamishli, near the border crossing with Turkey. The explosion reportedly killed two civilians.

Idlib:

Turkish Armed Forces’ convoy entered Syria through Kafr Lusin and headed towards Jabal Ishtabaraq area in western Idlib, in order to establish an observation point in the region. The observation point is reportedly going to be established at Jabal Ishtabaraq, which overlooks the city of Jisr al-Shughur and Al-Ghab Plain.

Hama:

The last seventh batch of rebel elements and their families were evacuated from the Northern Homs pocket and arrived at Qalaat al-Madiq crossing in western Hama. The batch reportedly consisted of around 2000 rebel elements and civilians, who will be transferred to camps for internally displaced persons in Aleppo and Idlib governorates.

Homs:

Syrian Arab Army and Syrian Internal Security Forces entered all of the localities in the Northern Homs pocket, after yesterday’s partial entry in the eastern and southwestern part of the pocket. The aforementioned forces entered all of the 65 localities in the pocket, after the last rebels and their families were evacuated to northern Syria. General Command of the Syrian Arab Armed Forces officially announced full control over the Northern Homs pocket.

Damascus:

Islamic State shelled Jisr Fiktoriya area in the city of Damascus. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, two civilians were killed and 19 wounded by the shelling of the aforementioned area.

Syrian Arab Army and allies made advances in Al-Hajar al-Aswad and Al-Yarmouk camp against the Islamic State, reportedly capturing over two dozen of buildings.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) overran an Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Koh Sayad area of Shirin Tagab district. Nine elements of the Afghan National Army, including commander Qadar were killed in the encounter. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized three motorcycles, a PK machine gun, and six assault rifles from the checkpoint.

Jowzjan Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized a village and destroyed an Afghan National Army’s post in Qarqin district, seizing large quantities of ammunition and seven motorcycles in the process.

Samangan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight, wounded 11, and arrested two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the province.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 47, wounded 38, and arrested three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Bati Kot and Khogyani districts, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed three and wounded four elements of the Afghan National Army in Khogyani district.

Maidan Wardak Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Saydabad district.

Logar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device targeted a vehicle of the Afghan Local Police in the city of Pol-e Alam, capital of Logar Province. The explosion killed Afghan Local Police’s commander, Zabihullah and wounded another element of the local police.

Paktia Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed three elements of the Afghan National Army in the city of Gardez, capital of Paktia Province.

Badghis Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that the group captured Dara Boom district (part of Muqur district), after the Afghan National Security Forces withdrew from the district’s center, Afghan National Police’s headquarters and all of the surrounding checkpoints.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 30 and wounded 16 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Andar, Jaghatu, Gelan, and Zana Khan districts, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed 13 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces and destroyed three vehicles in Andar district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan attacked and destroyed two Afghan National Army’s posts in the city of Ghazni, destroying two armored vehicles, as well as killing five and wounding seven soldiers in the process.

Urozgan Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran six Afghan National Army’s posts and bases in Khas Urozgan district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that 18 elements of the Afghan National Army were killed and six wounded in the encounters.

Zabul Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 14 and wounded nine elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Arghandab district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Hajyano Killi area of Arghandab district, killing 19 soldiers.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed seven and wounded four elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Jerashk district.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now two strikes reports will be published each week, on Mondays and Fridays.

Amaq Agency:

Indonesia:

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency stated that an element of the Indonesian National Police was killed and two wounded in an attack in Riau city on Sumatra island. Important to note, the Indonesian National Police killed all four elements of the Islamic State that conducted the attack.

    1. Hey there, since the war in Afghanistan is not receiving major coverage like the war in Syria, there aren’t a lot of maps available, and even if they are available, they are not up to date. This is why maps regarding Afghanistan are added just to give an estimated situation in certain province, with “Approximate situation…” added before the maps.
