Syrian War Daily – 19th of August 2019

Hello and welcome to the 886th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:


The Syrian Arab Army captured Al-Nimr checkpoint north of Khan Sheikhun from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and Al-Jabhat al-Wataniya lil-Tahrir (National Liberation Front), as well as cut off the M5 highway linking Khan Sheikhun to the rebel stronghold of Maarat al-Numaan to the north.

The Syrian Arab Air Force targeted a convoy of Faylaq al-Sham, which was waiting for a Turkish Armed Forces convoy near Maarat al-Numaan.

Unknown individuals attempted to assassinate the mayor of Al-Shajarah, Hassan al-Abdullah, with an improvised explosive device in front of his house in Al-Shajarah. Al-Abdullah was wounded in the assassination attempt and transferred to a hospital in Tafas.


Baghlan Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s (Taliban) Al-Emarah News stated that 22 members of the Afghan National Security Forces defected to the group in Baghlan-e Markazi district.

Logar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 5 members of the Taliban in Pol-e Alam district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 4 members of the Taliban in Gelan district.

Kandahar Province:

A Taliban improvised explosive device killed 2 members of the Afghan National Security Forces in Kala Shamir area of Maywand district.
