Syrian War Daily – 6th of July 2019

Hello and welcome to the 842nd installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

‘Afrin Liberation Forces’ (Hêzên Rizgariya Efrînê) released a new statement claiming that the group conducted an operation against the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army in northern Aleppo. Full statement released by the group;

On 4 July, our forces carried out a qualitative operation targeting a military vehicle carrying a number of mercenaries of the Turkish occupation in the city of Mara’ and destroyed it.

Raqqa:

Syrian Democratic Forces arrested two individuals on charges of belonging to the Islamic State in the village of Khash Hbal in eastern Raqqa.

Latakia:

Improvised explosive device wounded the leader of the Syrian Arab Army-affiliated Al-Mouqawamat al-Suriya (Syrian Resistance), Mihraç Ural on a road in the governorate. The attack was reportedly conducted by the Free Syrian Army’s Abu Amara Special Task Brigade, which previously targeted and wounded Ural in a similar attack in the September of 2018.

Idlib:

Syrian Arab Air Force conducted air raids over Ariha, Khan Sheikhun, and Mohambal. According to the Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets), 15 civilians were killed and more than 20 were wounded by the air raids.

Afghanistan

Takhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly fully cleared Baharak district from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban). Reports claimed that 27 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were killed in the clearance operations.

Ghor Province:

Residents of Bazarkham Bolagh area in Firozkooh (Chaghcharan) district pledged their allegiance to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The aforementioned area consists of 34 villages and more than 2000 families, under the tribal leadership of Haji Dawod, Nadar Khan and Abdul Rauf. Similarly, residents of Bazar Saqwah, Saibak, and Karab Gala areas of Du Layna district pledged their allegiance to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The aforementioned areas consists of 30 villages and more than 1500 families, under the tribal leadership of Abdul Samad, Neamatullah, and Haji Gul Aqa.

Farah Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five and wounded three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Farah district.

Zabul Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan National Police’s center in Norak area of Qalat district. According to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News, 17 elements of the Afghan National Police were killed and three vehicles were destroyed in the encounter. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized an armored personnel carrier, two PK machine guns, two RPG launchers, and a DShK heavy machine gun from the center.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 25 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Maruf district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran two Afghan National Security Forces’ posts in Sharghi Dorahi area of Khakrez district. Six elements of the Afghan National Army and five elements of the Afghan Local Police were killed in the encounters.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
