Syrian War Daily – 23rd of May 2019

Hello and welcome to the 798th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:


Improvised explosive device targeted a vehicle of the Free Syrian Army’s Firqat al-Sultan Murad (Sultan Murad Division) on Zamzam street near Al-Turk mosque in the city of Al-Bab. The explosion wounded a commander of Firqat al-Sultan Murad, Abu Tayeb Ghazal and a civilian.

Syrian Arab Army’s artillery and the Syrian Arab Air Force targeted Maarat al-Numaan, Khan Sheikhun, Kafr Nabl, Maarat al-Seen, Tarmala, Maaret Hroma, Kafr Sajnah, and Kansafra, Hazarin, Al-Qasabiyah, Arinba, Abideen, Kafr Aweid, and several other localities in the governorate. According to the Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets), at least eight civilians were killed and more than 15 were wounded by the targeting.

Deir al-Zour:

Left over Islamic State’s improvised explosive device killed a civilian in the village of Al-Kashma in eastern Deir al-Zour.


Kunar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five elements of the Islamic State in Nurgal district.

Helmand Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) ambushed a vehicle of the Afghan Local Police in Yakchal area of Nahri Saraj district. Five elements of the Afghan Local Police were reportedly killed in the ambush.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed two and arrested three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Maywand district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed five elements of the Afghan National Security Forces near Zarhi base and in Kondalan area of Shah Wali Kot district.


CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
