Syrian War Daily – 18th of February 2019

Hello and welcome to the 704th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

’Wrath of Olives Operation Room’ claimed responsibility for the yesterday’s explosion, which targeted the headquarters of the Free Syrian Army’s Firqat al-Sultan Murad (Sultan Murad Division) in the city of Sharran. Reports suggested that two elements of the Free Syrian Army were wounded by the explosion, while the ‘Wrath of Olives’ claimed that three elements were killed by the explosion.

‘Afrin Liberation Forces’ (Hêzên Rizgariya Efrînê) released a new statement claiming that the group conducted an operation against the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army in Afrin region. Full statement released by the group;

Our fighters continue to carry out operations against the Turkish-backed terrorists in and around Afrin. Our units have carried out 3 operations in Afrin and Azaz on February 17.

Our fighters struck a vehicle of Turkish terrorists patrolling in Afrin’s Bilbil town, wounding terrorists and a soldier.

Our units have carried out an operation against a base of the Turkish-backed jihadi group Nour al-Din al-Zanki in Afrin’s Janders. While the group suffered losses, the number of casualties couldn’t be clarified.

HRE fighters hit another base of Turkish-backed jihadists called al-Jabha al-Shamiyya in Kil Jibrin of Azaz. A terrorist called Omar al-Jasem was killed, another one called Mahmoud al-Ali was injured in the operation.

Idlib:

Two improvised explosive devices targeted Al-Qusour neighborhood of Idlib city near Al-Jarah roundabout. According to the Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets), 16 civilians were killed and 85 wounded by the two explosions.

Daraa:

Syrian Arab Army arrested four former elements of the Free Syrian Army’s Liwa Shuhada Inkhil in the city of Inkhil. The arrested elements previously signed a reconciliation agreement with the Syrian government.

Libya

Al-Zawiyah:

Security forces of the ‘Government of National Accord’ released 14 Tunisian nationals who were captured by unknown gunmen several days ago, while on their way towards Al-Zawiyah Refinery.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five and wounded two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) in Qaysar district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan reportedly killed ten and wounded eight elements of the Afghan Local Police in an attack on a military center in Arkalik area of Qaysar district.

Balkh Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that 72 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces defected to the group in Chimtal district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed six and wounded three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Andar and Qarabagh districts.

Helmand Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed four and wounded one element of the Afghan National Security Forces in Haidar Abad Dukano, Haji Abdul Aziz, and Malgir areas of Jerashk district.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 15, wounded six, and arrested ten elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as seized several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Maywand district.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
