Syrian War Daily – 17th of February 2019

Hello and welcome to the 703rd installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Vehicle-borne improvised explosive device exploded near the headquarters of the Free Syrian Army’s Firqat al-Sultan Murad (Sultan Murad Division) in the city of Sharran. Two elements of the Free Syrian Army were wounded by the explosion.

Raqqa:

Unknown gunmen wounded two elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces’ Asayîş (Security) in the village of Kubash in northwestern Raqqa.

Left over Islamic State’s improvised explosive device wounded two civilians in Al-Haramiyah neighborhood of Raqqa city.

Hama:

Syrian Arab Army’s artillery shelled Al-Sharia, Al-Hawiz, and Al-Tuwaynah in northwestern Hama. According to reports, two civilians were wounded by the shelling. Separately, the Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets) stated that one civilian was killed and two were wounded by the shelling of Khan Sheikhun in southern Idlib governorate.

Libya

Murzuq:

Libyan Air Force conducted an air raid targeting positions of the Chadian opposition militia groups near Murzuq.

Afghanistan

Takhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight and wounded 11 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban), as well as destroyed four hideouts in Dashti Qala district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight, wounded 12, and arrested three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Muqur and Andar districts. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that 17 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and 11 wounded during several days of clashes in Andar district.

Urozgan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed nine elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed two hideouts and several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Chonarto and Tarinkot districts. Among the killed elements was the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s governor of Chonarto district, Abdul Hadi.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed eight elements of the Afghan National Security Force in an attack on a checkpoint in Camp area of Kash Urozgan district.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed four elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Sangin and Marjah districts.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan took over three Afghan National Security Forces’ checkpoints in Haji Zarif Kosa area of Lashkar Gah district, after the latter withdrew from the checkpoints.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed three and wounded two elements of the Afghan National Security Forces in Nahri Saraj and Jerashk districts.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed six elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Shah Wali Kot district.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
