Syrian War Daily – 11th of February 2019

Hello and welcome to the 697th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

‘Afrin Liberation Forces’ (Hêzên Rizgariya Efrînê) released a new statement claiming that the group conducted an operation against the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army in Afrin region. Full statement released by the group;

Fighters of Afrin Liberation Forces keep up their operations against Turkish terrorists and Turkish-backed jihadist militias in and around Afrin.

One of our units hit invaders’ vehicles which were patrolling in village of Kafar Kilbin of Azaz. One of the vehicles was destroyed and 3 terrorists were seriously injured in the operation.

Improvised explosive device wounded a civilian in the village of Sandaf near Marea in northern Aleppo.

Unknown gunmen killed an element of Faylaq al-Sham on the road between Darat Izza and Termanin in western Aleppo.

Raqqa:

Syrian Democratic Forces arrested five individuals near the village of Al-Ansar, northwest of Raqqa city. The individuals were arrested on charges of belonging to the Islamic State.

Deir al-Zour:

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency claimed that CJTF-OIR‘s shelling and air raids over Al-Baghouz killed around 100 civilians.

Al-Quneitra:

Israeli Defense Forces targeted Syrian Arab Army’s positions near Jubata al-Khashab and Tal al-Diriyah, as well as targeted an abandoned hospital in Al-Quneitra city. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, only material damage was caused by the targeting. Syrian Arab News Agency’s report regarding the event;

SANA reporter said on Monday that the Israeli occupation launched aggression with shells on Quneitra, and the damages were limited to material ones.

The reporter added that the Israeli aggression has targeted the destroyed Hospital of Quneitra with a number of tank shells and one of the observation centers in Jabata al-Khashab.

He pointed out to reports about targeting Tal al-Dire’a in Quneitra with a number of shells, and the damages were also restricted to materials.

Air defenses of the Syrian Arab army, on January 20th, intercepted an Israeli air aggression that targeted the southern area, preventing it from achieving its targets.

Daraa:

Improvised explosive device killed an element of the Syrian Arab Army near Omar bin al-Khattab mosque in the city of Jassim. The explosion occurred as the element attempted to dismantle the explosive device.

Libya

Derna:

Shura Council of Mujahideen in Derna announced death of five of its officials/leaders during recent clashes with the Libyan National Army in the Old City area of Derna city. Five officials/leaders that were announced as killed are; Abdul Aziz al-Jibani (Zizo) (prominent commander previously in charge of battles in Al-Dhahr al-Hamr area), Muhammed Dunqu (head of the council’s Revolutionary Chamber), Mohammed al-Tishani (head of the council’s police station in Derna), Mohammed al-Khorram (head of the council’s Derna Charitable Society), and Adnan al-Shaari (brother of the council’s leader Ateyah Al-Shaari).

Awbari:

Libyan National Army reportedly secured Al-Sharara oil field, after an agreement was reached with the forces loyal to the Government of National Accord. Forces loyal to the Government of National Accord withdrew to an unknown location.

Murzuq:

Libyan National Army reportedly took full control of Umm al-Aranib area from Chadian militias.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three and wounded three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) in Khwaja Sahib Posh district.

Takhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight and wounded 12 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Khwaja Ghar district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed eight and wounded six elements of the Afghan National Army, as well as destroyed an armored vehicle, during clashes between the two in Khwaja Ghar district.

Badghis Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 35 and wounded 17 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed a vehicle, seven motorcycles, and several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Ab Kamari and Murghab districts, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran two Afghan National Army’s posts in Akazo area of Murghab district. One element of the Afghan National Army was killed and three were wounded, while an element of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was wounded in the encounter.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed seven elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed two motorcycles and several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Qarabagh district.

Zabul Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device destroyed an Afghan National Army’s armored personnel carrier, killing six and wounding two soldiers in Hazar Khel area of Arghandab district.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed six elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed a motorcycle and several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Garmsir district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed three elements of the Afghan National Security Forces in Kopaki area of Nad Ali district.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight and wounded one element of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Shah Wali Kot district.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
