Syrian War Daily – 18th of November 2018

Hello and welcome to the 612th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Several Free Syrian Army’s factions, mainly Firqat al-Hamza, Firqat al-Sultan Murad, and Liwa al-Sultan Muhammad al-Fatih (Fatih Sultan Mehmet Tugayı) launched large-scale operations against armed groups in Afrin, which are harassing civilians and are not part of Al-Jaysh al-Watani al-Suri (Syrian National Army). The operations mainly focused against Tajammu Shuhada al-Sharqiya (not to be confused with defunct Liwa Shuhada al-Sharqiya), which separated itself from Ahrar al-Sharqiya and has around 200 fighters. According to reports, the Free Syrian Army’s factions were able to capture three of Tajammu Shuhada al-Sharqiya’s headquarters in Al-Mahmudiya neighborhood and Al-Filat street of Afrin city, while clashes for the last two of latter’s headquarters continue. At least three elements of the Free Syrian Army were killed and six civilians wounded in the clashes in Afrin city.

Raqqa:

Improvised explosive device killed two civilians in the village of Al-Mansoura, northwest of Raqqa city.

Al-Hasakah:

Improvised explosive device reportedly killed two and wounded four elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces on a road in the village of Al-Hadidiya in southern Al-Hasakah.

Idlib:

Improvised explosive device killed a civilian in the city of Maarat al-Numaan in southern Idlib.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) overran an Afghan Local Police’s post in Borghan Payan area of Khaybar district. Three elements of the Afghan Local Police were killed and five wounded, while an element of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was killed and two wounded in the encounter.

Kunduz Province:

Afghan National Security Forces allegedly killed 36 and wounded 38 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Archi (Dasht-e Archi) district, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Nangarhar Province:

Three elements of the Afghan National Security Forces surrendered to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Khogyani, Ghani Khel, and Momand Dara districts.

Farah Province:

Afghan National Security Forces destroyed two weapons depots and ammunition caches in Khaki Safed district.

Zabul Province:

Three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan infiltrated and opened fire on an Afghan National Police’s post in Dosti Killi area of Shinkay district. Two elements of the Afghan National Police were killed and nine captured in the encounter. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized an RPG launcher, a PK machine gun, and 14 assault rifles from the post.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Marjah and Nawa-I-Barakzayi districts.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ambushed and destroyed an Afghan National Army’s armored personnel carrier, killing and wounding three soldiers in Wazir Manda area of Nahri Saraj. Separately, an Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device destroyed an Afghan National Army’s armored personnel carrier in Nabu Aka Karez area of Nahri Saraj district.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 20 and wounded 11 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Maywand district.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
