Syrian War Daily – 8th of November 2018

Hello and welcome to the 602nd installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Vehicle-borne improvised explosive device wounded six civilians near a school in the city of Azaz in northern Aleppo. Separately, a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device targeted headquarters of Faylaq al-Sham in Jinderes city. The explosion killed two elements of Faylaq al-Sham and wounded several individuals, including civilians.

Hama:

Morek – Souran crossing in northern Hama was officially opened to civilian traffic today, six days after it was opened exclusively to commercial traffic. Civilians are free to cross between areas under rebel control and areas under the control of the Syrian government.

Homs:

Syrian Arab Army managed to free 19 civilians, who were abducted by the Islamic State during the latter’s attacks in Al-Suwayda governorate in July of 2018. Syrian Arab Army freed the civilians after clashing with the Islamic State in Humayma area, northeast of Palmyra.

Daraa:

Improvised explosive device wounded five civilians in Daraa al-Mahatta neighborhood of Daraa city.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 20 and wounded 13 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) in Dawlat Abad district, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan Local Police’s post in Arkalik area of Qaysar district. Four elements of the Afghan Local Police were killed and five wounded, as well as two armored vehicles and two motorcycles destroyed in the encounter.

Balkh Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ambushed and wounded two elements of the Afghan Local Police in Chimtal district.

Kunduz Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran four Afghan National Security Forces’ military bases in Archi (Dasht-e Archi) district. According to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News, 33 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and several dozen wounded in the encounters.

Kunar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed two elements of Al-Qaeda in Wata Pur district.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed an element of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Achin district.

Maidan Wardak Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan raided Afghan National Army’s positions in Saydabad district and overran two posts in the process. According to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News, 22 elements of the Afghan National Army were killed in the encounters. Two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were killed and three wounded in the same encounters.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 39 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Jaghori district, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized a large Afghan National Army’s military base in Ghazni district. According to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News, 17 elements of the Afghan National Army were killed and five captured, as well as an armored vehicle destroyed in the encounter. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized ten assault rifles, four PK machine guns, two vehicles, and three RPG launchers from the base.

Urozgan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed four elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Tarinkot district.

Zabul Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed four and wounded seven elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed six motorcycles in Shah Joy district.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 11 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed three vehicles in Sangin and Jerashk districts.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
