Syrian War Daily – 5th of November 2018

Hello and welcome to the 599th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Vehicle-borne improvised explosive device wounded three civilians in the village of Haj Kusa in northeastern Aleppo.

Idlib:

Unknown gunmen attempted to assassinate media activist Mohammed Khudair on the road between Hatya and Zarzour villages near Jisr al-Shughur.

Deir al-Zour:

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency stated that an element of the Syrian Democratic Forces was killed in the village of Bariha near Al-Busayra in eastern Deir al-Zour.

Daraa:

Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division arrested a former commander of the Free Syrian Army’s Jaysh al-Muetaz, Fadi al-Assami at a checkpoint between Dael and Tafas. Al-Assami was also previously a member of the Revolutionary Command Council of Horan. Syrian Arab Army arrested Al-Assami on unknown charges, even though he signed a reconciliation agreement.

Afghanistan

Balkh Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s (Taliban) Al-Emarah News claimed that the group captured over 30 villages from the Afghan National Security Forces in Dawlat Abad district.

Laghman Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three and wounded two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed two motorcycles in Alishang district.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed two elements of the Islamic State in Pachir Aw Agam district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight, wounded ive, and arrested three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Andar district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan captured Khogyani district and its administration headquarters from the Afghan National Security Forces. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that 18 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and six wounded in the encounter. Provincial Council of Ghazni confirmed that Khogyani district fell to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Paktika Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three elements of the Haqqani Network in Gayan district.

Zabul Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed ten and wounded 16 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Arghandab district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan attacked Afghan National Army’s Tor Kot checkpoint in Zanzir Ada area of Shamulzayi district. Eight elements of the Afghan National Army were killed and three wounded, as well as an armored personnel carrier destroyed in the encounter. Two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were killed in the attack.

Helmand Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s element infiltrated an Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Regi area of Nadi Ali district. The infiltrator killed an Afghan National Army’s commander and four other elements.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Nesh district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Arwgh area of Khakrez district, reportedly killing 14 soldiers and destroying two vehicles in the process. Two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were wounded in the encounter. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized a motorcycle, a DShK heavy machine gun, two RPG launchers, three PK machine guns, and eight assault rifles from the checkpoint.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
