Syrian War Daily – 29th of October 2018

Hello and welcome to the 592nd installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and Ahrar al-Sham clashed in the village of Kafr Hamra, with conflicting reports about who started the clashes. According to the reports, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham attempted to open headquarters near Ahrar al-Sham’s headquarters in the village and opened fire, while other reports stated that Ahrar al-Sham attempted to open headquarters near Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s headquarters in the village. Three elements of Ahrar al-Sham were killed and six wounded, while Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s official of Kafr Hamra, Abu Mohammed and official of Anadan, Abu Tarab, and two elements of the group were wounded in the clashes.

Improvised explosive device targeted a vehicle of Ahrar al-Sham in the western part of Al-Bab city. The explosion killed three elements of Ahrar al-Sham, including a commander named Abu Abdul Rahman, as well as wounded one element.

Hama:

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham arrested a member of the Hama governorate’s council, Ziad Nadaf in the city of Morek in northern Hama. This is the second time that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham arrested Nadaf, who was released a month ago by the group. Nadaf was arrested on unknown charges.

Ahrar al-Sham’s leader, Jaber Ali Pasha escaped Syrian Arab Army’s artillery shelling during his tour in northern Hama. Ali Pasha and his delegation were targeted by the artillery as they were visiting military installations and positions of the Free Syrian Army’s Jaysh al-Izza in the village of Al-Lataminah. The artillery shelling only caused severe damage to the delegation’s vehicle.

Deir al-Zour:

Syrian Democratic Forces reportedly recaptured parts of Jabal Baghouz, which the Islamic State managed to capture during a large attack in eastern Deir al-Zour.

Afghanistan

Balkh Province:

Ten elements of the Afghan National Security Forces surrendered to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) with their weapons in Chahar Bolak district.

Badakhshan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed nine, wounded ten, and arrested four elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as seized several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Darayim, Arghanj Khwa, and Tagab districts.

Nangarhar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan raided a number of Afghan National Security Forces’ positions in Khogyani district, reportedly killing 11 and wounding a dozen of elements. Three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were killed and two wounded in the raids.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed four elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed two motorcycles in Andar district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed two elements of the Afghan National Army and destroyed an armored vehicle in Andar district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device destroyed an Afghan National Army’s vehicle, killing six soldiers in Ghazni district.

Farah Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed nine elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Pusht Rod district.

Kandahar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed seven and wounded seven elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Khakrez and Shah Wali Kot districts.

CJTF-OIR:
