Syrian War Daily – 19th of October 2018

Hello and welcome to the 582nd installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Yekîneyên Parastina Gel’s (People’s Protection Units) Media Center claimed that one element of the Turkish Armed Forces and two elements of the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army were killed in two operations conducted by the group in Afrin region. Full statement by the Media Center;

In the second phase of the resistance against invasion of Afrin, our forces continue their actions against the occupying Turkish army and their associated terrorists. From 16-17 October, a Turkish soldier and two terrorists were killed.

1- On 16 October, our troops carried out a sabotage action against a military vehicle belonging to the occupying Turkish army in the countryside of Rajo district in Efrîn. As a result of the action, a soldier was killed and the vehicle was destroyed.
2- On 17 October, our forces carried out another sabotage action against a military vehicle belonging to the mercenaries of Sulaiman Shah in the Mabata district of Afrin. As a result of the action, two terrorists were killed and the vehicle destroyed.

Rebel shelling of Al-Sabil neighborhood in Aleppo city reportedly killed one civilian and caused significant material damage, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

Raqqa:

Unknown gunmen opened fire on a Syrian Arab Army’s checkpoint southeast of Al-Akirishi in eastern Raqqa. According to the reports, one element of the Syrian Arab Army was killed and another wounded in the incident.

Idlib:

Al-Jabhat al-Wataniya lil-Tahrir (National Liberation Front) reportedly arrested a sleeper cell belonging to the Syrian government in the city of Jarjanaz in eastern Idlib. Al-Jabhat al-Wataniya lil-Tahrir arrested two individuals in the encounter, however, one of its elements was killed in the process.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) overran an Afghan National Army’s post in Aidzaie area of Dawlat Abad district. Two elements of the Afghan National Army were killed and three wounded, as well as two armored vehicles destroyed in the encounter.

Afghan National Army’s element surrendered to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, handing over an armored vehicle, a DsHK heavy machine gun, and an assault rifle to the group in Shirin Tagab district.

Kunduz Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed seven and wounded three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed a hideout in Qalay-I-Zal district.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 30, wounded three, and arrested two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Islamic State, as well as destroyed three hideouts and several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Deh Bala (Haska Meyna) and Chaparhar districts, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Khost Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed a vehicle in Nadir Shah Kot district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 14 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Qarabagh district.

Urozgan Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ambushed and killed an element of the Afghan National Army, as well as wounded three soldiers in Lablan area of Deh Rawud district. Two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were also wounded in the ambush.

Helmand Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed four elements of the Afghan National Security Forces in Jerashk and Sangin districts.

CJTF-OIR:
