Syrian War Daily – 18th of October 2018

Hello and welcome to the 581st installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Yekîneyên Parastina Gel’s (People’s Protection Units) Media Center stated that six elements of the Turkey-backed Free Syrian Army were killed in two operations conducted by the group in Afrin region. Full statement by the Media Center;

As part of the resistance against Turkish-led invasion Afrin our forces continue to carry out military operations against Turkish invasion army and Turkish backed terrorists in Afrin and its countryside. In two separate operations targeting these elements, our units managed to eliminate 6 terrorists while 5 others were seriously injured.

1- Our forces targeted a base of Hamza brigade in village of Qimara of Afrin’s Sherawa town on October 16. 4 terrorists were killed as result of the operation while 3 others were injured. 3 of the killed terrorists identified as Abdullah al-Mar’i, Mohammad Soulaiman and Abu Yaqoob Hamza.

2- Our units targeted a military vehicle belonging to the terrorist group of Feylaq Sham. The vehicle was destroyed, 2 terrorists were killed and 2 others were injured in the operation.

Al-Jaysh al-Watani al-Suri’s (Syrian National Army) Faylaq al-Thalith (Third Corps/Legion) reportedly raided a hideout of a Yekîneyên Parastina Gel’s sleeper cell in Afrin region. According to the reports, Faylaq al-Thalith arrested three individuals with weapons in the raid.

Idlib:

Unknown gunmen kidnapped two civilians on a farm near the city of Idlib.

Deir al-Zour:

Syrian Democratic Forces’ Media Center released a report regarding today’s advances and encounters with the Islamic State in the governorate;

1- Al-Baguz axis: Our fighters foiled a surprise attack launched by IS mercenaries, and that resulted in killing three terrorists whose bodies were kept at the hands of our forces after the Global Coalition’s aircrafts launched several raids on the terrorists’ sites. That was accompanied with bombing their fortifications with missiles. Moreover, three fighters of our forces got wounded during the attack.

This axis witnessed fierce clashes in which the terrorists used heavy weapons and SPG9 shells. The battles resulted in wounding one of our fighters and martyring another.

2- Hejin axis: Our forces continue to install other points in this axis. During establishing the earth mounds, a land mine planted by the terrorists blasted in the area which resulted in wounding two fighters.

3- Al-Behra axis: This axis witnessed fierce clashes between our forces and IS terrorists after the latter tried to surprise our forces with armored vehicles and booby-trapped cars, but our forces repelled the attack and foiled it while the terrorists fled. In the result of the attack, one of our fighters martyred and another one got wounded.

4- The clashes’ outcome:

The number of the terrorists’ killed: 15 terrorists.

The Global Coalition’s strikes: 11 aerial strikes.

The terrorists’ losses: 5 sites and buildings where the terrorists used to fortify in were destroyed.

The weapons seized by our fighters: GPS devise.

The number of our fighters’ martyrs: 2 martyrs.

The number of our fighters’ wounded: 7 wounded.

Daraa:

Improvised explosive device wounded three civilians on a road in Daraa al-Balad district of Daraa city.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed one and wounded three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) in Qaysar district.

Balkh Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 16 and wounded 21 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed eight motorcycles in Chimtal district.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 21 elements of the Islamic State in Deh Bala (Haska Meyna) and Achin districts, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Maidan Wardak Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News claimed that 26 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and dozens wounded in a raid on the Chaki Wardak district’s administration center and nearby Afghan National Police’s headquarters and posts. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan reportedly overran three posts in the raid.

Paktia Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device killed one and wounded two elements of the Afghan National Army in Gardez district.

Ghazni Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed six and wounded six elements of the Afghan National Security Forces, as well as destroyed two armored vehicles in Qarabagh district.

Urozgan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed seven and wounded 11 elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the province.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed three elements of the Afghan National Security Forces in Kotwalo area of Tarinkot district.

Kandahar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed the Kandahar Province’s police chief, Abdul Raziq and the National Directorate of Security’s chief of Kandahar Province, Abdul Momin, in an attack on a meeting in the Kandahar governor’s office. United States Army’s, General Scott Miller was also present at the meeting, however, he was able to escape the attack unhurt.
