Syrian War Daily – 16th of October 2018

Hello and welcome to the 579th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Syrian Arab Army and the Free Syrian Army sporadically clashed near the villages of Tell Maled, Harbel, Tell Hush, and Tuaihna (near Marea) in northern Aleppo. One element of the Free Syrian Army’s Al-Jabhat al-Shamiya (Levant Front) was wounded, while reports claimed that several elements of the Syrian Arab Army were also wounded in the encounter.

Deir al-Zour:

Syrian Democratic Forces’ Media Center released a report regarding today’s advances and encounters with the Islamic State in the governorate;

1-Al-Bagouz axis: Strong engagements broke out between our fighters and terrorist Daesh organization the latter used heavy weapons and mortars randomly. As a result of engagements, our fighters seized a 120-mm mortar and a number of other weapons and military equipment, and several terrorists were killed.

In the morning, Daesh terrorists launched attacks on the positions of our forces south of Soussah village. Our fighters confronted it. Violent engagements broke out, in which a number of terrorists were killed. Our fighters also destroyed a motorcycle with a number of vehicles which were used by the terrorists. In addition to the bombing of a number of mines laid by terrorists in the area.

In the same axis, our fighters targeted the positions and Fortifications of the terrorists, through mortar shelling, which caused losses in their ranks, but were not known, due to the severity of the shelling and the presence of mines in the area.

Simultaneously with engagements, Coalition artillery shelled terrorist positions, and destroying 3 sites and causing casualties. Coalition jets also participated in shelling terrorist positions and points.

2- Hajan axis: This axis witnessed battles and engagements between our fighters and “Dahesh” terrorists, and due to that a number of them were killed, in addition to the destruction of some of the sites where they were holed up, and our fighters were able to detonate a number of mines which were laid by terrorists to prevent the progress of our fighters, International Coalition Forces targeting terrorist sites with Hummer missiles, which led to the destruction of some of its positions.

3-Outcome of engagements:

– Number of terrorists death:/ 9 / terrorists.

– International coalition jets strike:/ 2/ strikes.

– Number of rockets launched by International coalition on terrorist sites: /2/ rockets.

– Terrorist losses: destroy / 3 headquarters, destroy a motorcycle, and seized a 120-mm mortar.

Al-Suwayda:

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency stated that the group killed and wounded ten elements of the Syrian Arab Army, as the latter was attempting to advance in Tell al-Safa area in eastern Al-Suwayda.

Afghanistan

Balkh Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three and wounded five elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) in Chahar Bolak district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed four and wounded two elements of the Afghan Local Police in Chimtal district.

Kunduz Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed six and wounded two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Qalay-I-Zal district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that 17 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and wounded in Qalay-I-Zal district.

Laghman Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight and wounded one element of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Alishang district.

Badghis Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran the three remaining Afghan National Security Forces’ checkpoints in Qala i Naw District district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that the Afghan National Security Forces abandoned eight checkpoints in the district a couple of days ago. According to Al-Emarah, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan blocked the main route between Badghis and Herat provinces.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly killed 19 and wounded ten elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Ab Band district, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Farah Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan partially overran an Afghan National Army’s base in Khatewan area of Pusht Rod district. Eight elements of the Afghan National Army were reportedly killed and 12 wounded, while five elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were wounded in the encounter.

Kandahar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed seven and wounded three elements of the Afghan National Army in Samchak area of Maruf district.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
