Syrian War Daily – 14th of October 2018

Hello and welcome to the 577th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Aleppo:

Free Syrian Army’s Ahrar al-Sharqiya arrested eight individuals who were stealing parts of a railway near the village of Ayn al-Hajar in Afrin. The individuals will be handed over to the Turkey-backed Free Police.

Al-Hasakah:

Unknown gunmen killed an element of the Syrian Democratic Forces in Ghuairan district of Al-Hasakah city.

Daraa:

Syrian Arab Army arrested a commander of the Free Syrian Army’s Liwa al-Khalifa Omar, Abdul Salam al-Raghash in the city of Al-Sanamayn, north of Daraa. Al-Rashadan was reportedly arrested after civilians in the region raised several personal lawsuits / claims against him, including those accusing Al-Rashadan of kidnappings and murders. Similarly, Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division arrested a military commander of the Free Syrian Army’s Al-Liwa 18 Musha (18th Infantry Brigade), Mustafa al-Kasm and two individuals accompanying him in Daraa al-Mahata.

Al-Suwayda:

Syrian Arab Army and allies made limited advances against the Islamic State in Tell al-Safa area. Syrian Arab News Agency released a report regarding the event;

The military operations conducted by the Syrian Arab Army continued in the rocky cliffs adjacent to al-Safa hills in Sweida eastern Badyia (desert), tightening grip on Daesh (ISIS) remnants positioned in the area.

SANA’s reporter in Sweida said that army units engaged in fierce clashes with Daesh terrorists in the western part of al-Safa hills, achieving new advance in the area and killing scores of them amid a state of collapse in their ranks. Snipers were among the killed terrorists, according to the reporter.

The reporter added that the army’s artillery and warplanes carried out strikes against Daesh, killing scores of them and destroying their fortified points, hideouts, arms and munitions.

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency stated that two elements of the Syrian Arab Army were killed in an ambush near Tell al-Safa area in eastern Al-Suwayda.

Afghanistan

Balkh Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) killed four and wounded two elements of the Afghan National Security Forces in Chimtal district.

Badakhshan Province:

11 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces defected to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Yamgan district.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed an element of the Islamic State and destroyed an ammunition cache in Achin district.

Islamic State executed a commander of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Manu village of Chaparhar district.

Badghis Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper killed one and wounded one element of the Afghan National Army in Badroki area of Sang Atish district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed eight elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Muqur district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ambushed an Afghan National Army’s convoy in Andar district, reportedly destroying an armored vehicle and killing eight soldiers.

Paktika Province:

Afghan National Security Forces allegedly killed 83 and wounded 25 elements of the Haqqani Network, as well as destroyed a vehicle in Dila district, according to the Afghan Ministry of Defense.

Farah Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran two key Afghan National Security Forces’ military bases in Pusht Rod district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that 25 elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and 12 arrested in the encounters.

Urozgan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed four and wounded two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed two bases, 15 improvised explosive devices, and several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Tarinkot district.

Zabul Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five and wounded three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Daychopan district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan National Army’s post in Haji Eshaq Pump area of Shahr-e Safa district. Eight elements of the Afghan National Army were reportedly killed, while three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were wounded in the encounter. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized three sniper rifles, an RPG launcher, two PK machine guns, and three assault rifles from the post.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper killed the Afghan National Police’s chief of Mizan district, Asad and another element of the police in Mizan district.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, a motorcycle, and several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Khanashin, Garmsir, and Nahri Saraj districts.

Kandahar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device destroyed an Afghan National Army’s armored personnel carrier, killing five soldiers in Sar Khobaib area of Shah Wali Kot district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers killed three elements of the Afghan National Army in Bagh Khalil and Darwashan areas of Khakrez district.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now one strike report will be published each week on Mondays.
