Aleppo:

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham publicly executed Fawaz Ali al-Ahmad, on the charges of communicating with the CJTF-OIR and sending coordinates of Al-Jinah mosque to the organization in the March of 2017. Airstrikes on Al-Jinah mosque reportedly killed at least 50 and wounded more than 100 individuals, mainly civilians. CENTCOM released a statement regarding the airstrikes, saying that the “U.S. forces conducted an airstrike on an Al Qaeda in Syria meeting location March 16 in Idlib, Syria, killing several terrorists.” However, it appears that the airstrikes also targeted Al-Jinah mosque, which was full of civilians.

Raqqa:

Left over Islamic State’s improvised explosive device killed two civilians in the village of Al-Rafiqah, west of Raqqa.

Idlib:

Improvised explosive device targeted a vehicle on the road between Kafranbel (Kafr Nabl) and Kansafra. The explosion killed an element of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, as well as wounded three civilians.

Unknown gunmen kidnapped director of the ‘Institute of Media’ at the University of Idlib, Alaa al-Abdullah in the city of Idlib. Several reports suggest that the Syrian Salvation Government’s Al-Katibat al-Amniyah (Security Battalion) arrested Al-Abdullah.

Hama:

Four explosions rocked Hama Military Airport, with reports that the explosions occurred near ammunition and fuel depots in the airport. Cause of the explosions and casualties from the explosions are still unknown. Several unconfirmed reports claimed that the airport was targeted by the Israeli Air Force, however, this is far from confirmed.

Damascus:

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency stated that more than 28 elements of the Syrian Arab Army and allied militias were killed during clashes with the Islamic State in Al-Hajar al-Aswad. Yesterday, the agency stated that the Islamic State launched a counterattack in southern Damascus.

Daraa:

Islamic State-affiliated Jaysh Khalid ibn al-Walid shelled rebel-held village of Hayt in southwestern Daraa. According to the reports, three civilians were wounded by the shelling.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) overran an Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Nahrin area of Qaysar district. Similarly, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan Local Police’s checkpoint in Gorzad area of Shirin Tagab district. Two elements of the Afghan Local Police were killed in the encounter, while the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized two PK machine guns and two assault rifles from the checkpoint.

Afghan National Army’s commander, Awlia Qul surrendered to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Kata Kala area of Pashtun Kot district.

Jowzjan Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan captured an Afghan National Army’s post in Qarqin district, destroying two armored vehicles in the process. One element of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was killed and two wounded in the encounter.

Balkh Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three and wounded two elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Chahar Bolak district.

Kunduz Province:

Baghlan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces reportedly recaptured Tala wa Barfak district from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, a week after the latter captured it. Afghan National Security Forces killed eight and wounded eight elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed a vehicle and 12 fighting positions in the district.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces arrested 16 individuals suspected of belonging to the Islamic State or the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Khogyani district.

Logar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan attacked an Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Barakai Barak district, killing four soldiers in the process. Separately, an element of the Afghan Local Police was ambushed and killed by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Baraki Barak district.

Daykundi Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan launched a large-scale operation against the Afghan National Security Forces in Ajristan district, attacking the district’s administration center, Afghan National Police’s headquarters, and surrounding checkpoints. Clashes between the two sides still continue, while the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s Al-Emarah News stated that more than 24 elements of the Afghan National Police and Afghan Local Police were killed, as well as three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan wounded in the encounters. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized nine assault rifles, two PK machine guns, and two RPG launchers from the encounters.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed one and wounded three elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Qarabagh district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed three and wounded four elements of the Afghan National Army in Qarabagh district.

Urozgan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed two and wounded six elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Chora district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan overran an Afghan National Army’s base in Gograk area of Tarinkot district. According to the reports, 11 elements of the Afghan National Army were killed and an armored personnel carrier destroyed in the encounter.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s snipers attacked and overran an Afghan National Police’s checkpoint in Hoshi area of Charchino district. Six elements of the Afghan National Police were killed in the encounter.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five elements of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as destroyed several weapons depots and ammunition caches in Nahri Saraj district.

CJTF-OIR:

Between the 11th and the 17th of May 2018 CJTF-OIR has conducted 59 strikes in Syria. CJTF-OIR‘s main focus in Syria at the moment is Deir al-Zour-Albu Kamal region where they did 52 strikes supporting SDF‘s operations against IS destroying seven IS fighting position, three IS supply route, three IS VBIED factories, an IS logistics office, an IS headquarters building, two IS command and control centers, two IS vehicles, two IS-held buildings, an IS IED facility, and an IS weapons storage facility.

Other area where seven strikes occurred is Al-Shadaddi, destroying five IS-held buildings, an IS logistics facility, an IS mortar system, an IS ammo cache, four IS commander and control centers, and an IS machinery piece.
