Hello and welcome to the 299th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Idlib:

Syrian Arab Army captured the village of Sinjar from the rebel factions in the southern Idlib, as well as Al-Khiyara, Ajaz, Mutawasitah, Saraa, Surayah, Ramlah, Abu Tuhaijah and Nabaz villages. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham lost at least six fighters during the clashes around the village of Sinjar.

VBIED targeted Ajnad al-Kavkaz’s headquarters near Ihsan Al-Mabid school on the 30th street in the city of Idlib. The explosion killed 12 and wounded 106 people, according to the “Specialty Hospital” in the city of Idlib.

Liwa Homs al-Adiya released a video statement announcing their decision to join Free Syrian Army’s Jaysh al-Izza. Liwa Homs al-Adiya is led by Abdul Basset al-Sarot.

Deir al-Zour:

Syrian Democratic Forces are engaged in heavy clashes with the Islamic State at the outskirts of Al-Bahra village in the eastern Deir al-Zour. Five elements of the Syrian Democratic Forces were reportedly killed during the clashes at the outskirts of Al-Bahra, and additional four killed by the Islamic State’s snipers in the same area, according to the Amaq Agency. Islamic State’s Amaq Agency also reported destruction of Syrian Democratic Forces’ vehicle with an RPG, also at the outskirts of Al-Bahra.

Damascus:

Syrian Arab Army’s artillery and Syrian Arab Air Force targeted Arbeen and Harasta in the East Ghouta. According to the Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets), one civilian was killed and several wounded by the targeting of Arbeen.

Rebel forces shelled Al-Wafideen camp/crossing in the East Ghouta, wounding two civilians, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency.

Syrian Arab Army backed by allies continued to clash with the Ahrar al-Sham-led rebels in the city of Harasta and in the vicinity of the ‘Army Armored Vehicle Base’, with reports about the Syrian Arab Army capturing grain mills and breaking the siege of the base. Ten elements of the Syrian Arab Army and Syrian Republican Guard surrendered to the Ahrar al-Sham in the vicinity of the ‘Army Armored Vehicle Base’, after the latter promised them safe surrender. The official channel of the Ahrar al-Sham-led offensive released a video showing several captured elements and their treatment, however, it is not possible to verify if those are the same individuals that surrendered today.

Syrian Republican Guard’s Brigadier General Haidar al-Hassan died from the wounds sustained a couple of days ago in the clashes with the Ahrar al-Sham-led rebels in the vicinity of the ‘Army Armored Vehicle Base’. Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Armoured Division announced the death of three of their soldiers in the clashes in the vicinity of the ‘Army Armored Vehicle Base’.

Syrian Arab Army and allies’ units currently participating in Harasta battles are; 4th Armoured Division, Military Intelligence Directorate, 9th Armoured Division, Syrian Special Forces, Qalamoun Shield Forces, Arab National Guard, and Liwa Dhu al-Fiqaar.

Ahrar al-Sham’s spokesman in the East Ghouta, Munther Fares stated that he has good news for the people of Al-Ghouta, which will be published soon and will reportedly refute SAA‘s reports about recapture of several areas.

Daraa:

Unknown individuals assassinated commander in the Free Syrian Army’s Firqat 18 Adhar (18 March Division), Redad Tahama (Abu Nabout) in the city of Daraa.

Iraq

Nineveh:

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency reported assassination of an individual accused of being a spy for the Iraqi government in Al-Earibi neighborhood of Mosul.

Salah al-Deen:

Islamic State’s improvised explosive device destroyed Iraqi Army’s vehicle in Al-Qarshia village, killing a commander and wounding several elements, according to the Amaq Agency.

Baghdad:

Iraqi Security Forces conducted operations in Al-Fadhiliyah area, east of Baghdad. Security forces seized various weapons and ammunition, as well as several missiles.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed six and wounded four fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) in Pashtun Kot and Dawlat Abad districts.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device destroyed Afghan National Security Forces’ tank in Khwaja Topchaq area of Qaysar district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper killed two and wounded one soldier of the Afghan National Army in Bazar Akhtar Jan area of Chilgazy district.

Afghan Local Police’s element was killed in the clashes with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Zar Shwai area of Pastun Kot district.

Kunduz Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five and wounded three fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Khan Abad district, as well as destroyed three fighting positions.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device targeted Afghan National Security Forces’ vehicle in Chardara district, killing and wounding five elements.

Afghan National Army’s element was killed in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s ambush in Khan Abad district.

Kunar Province:

Two elements of the Afghan Local Police were wounded in the clashes with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Marawara district.

Kabul Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device killed an element of the Afghan National Army in the city of Kabul.

Laghman Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed four fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Alingar district.

Nangarhar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed a vehicle in Momand Dara district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan launched a counterattack against the Afghan National Security Forces in Ghani Khel district. Three elements of the Afghan National Security Forces and one element of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were killed during the clashes in the district.

Islamic State assassinated two elements of the National Directorate of Security in Jibrhar directorate, according to the Amaq Agency.

Logar Province:

Two soldiers of the Afghan National Army were killed in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s attack in the city of Pol-e Alam, capital of Logar Province.

Paktia Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan released 14 captured individuals, after mediating with the regional elders. The released individuals were reportedly given 5000 Afghan afghanis (71 dollars) and clothing.

Badghis Province:

Afghan National Army’s soldier was killed in the clashes with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Abgarmak area of Ghormach district.

Herat Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan raided Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Zewar area of Chishti Sharif district, killing one and wounding two soldiers.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper targeted Afghan National Security Forces’ positions in Chaishmey area of Shindand district, killing one and wounding another element.

Daykundi Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan killed Afghan National Army’s commander Abdul Rahim, along with three soldiers during the clashes between the two in Sawf area of Kijran district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed 18 and wounded ten fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Andar district. Furthermore, Afghan National Security Forces also destroyed six motorcycles.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan launched several attacks on Afghan National Police’s positions across the city of Ghazni, killing one and wounding four policemen.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper killed an element of the Afghan Local Police in Muqur district.

Farah Province:

Afghan National Security Forces conducted large-scale operations against the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the northern part of the province, killing 20 and wounding eight elements of the group. Among the 20 killed IEA elements are three commanders. Afghan National Security Forces also destroyed three vehicles, nine motorcycles, a weapons depot and an ammunition cache.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ambushed Afghan Local Police’s elements in Gulmaikh area of Farah district, killing one and wounding another one.

Urozgan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces conducted operations against the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the vicinity of the city of Tarinkot, capital of Urozgan Province. The operations resulted in killing of 10 and injury of seven fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as well as in destruction of a weapons depot.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan launched an attack against the Afghan National Security Forces in Landi Kosi area of the city of Tarinkot. Reports suggest that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan was able to regain Landi Kosi area, which was captured by ANSF a couple of days ago. Clashes in Landi Kosi area resulted in killing of nine ANSF‘s elements, while IEA reported that one of its fighters was killed and another wounded. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized a PK machine gun and eight assault rifles from the Afghan National Security Forces.

Zabul Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan raided Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Hasan Karez area of Shah Joy district, killing one and wounding another soldier.

Three elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and two wounded during the clashes with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Haji Killi area of Mizan district.

Nimruz Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed one and wounded two fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Delaram district.

Helmand Province:

National Directorate of Security conducted a special operation against the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Garmsir district. According to the directorate, nine fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were killed and 18 wounded in the operation. Furthermore, three local IEA commanders were arrested and several weapons depots and ammunition caches captured.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper targeted Afghan National Army’s checkpoint in Basharan area of the city of Lashkargah, capital of Helmand Province. The sniper reportedly killed two soldiers. Similarly, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s sniper targeted Afghan National Army’s infantry in Yakhchal area of Nahri Saraj district, killing one and wounding another soldier.

Kandahar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device targeted Afghan National Army’s infantry in Khozo Obo Nawa area of Spin Boldak district. The explosion reportedly caused several casualties among the army’s ranks, however, the exact number is not specified.

CJTF-OIR:

CJTF-OIR announced a change in their publishing policy. Now two strikes reports will be published each week, on Mondays and Fridays.

Yemen:

Islamic State’s improvised explosive device killed three fighters of Ansar Allah (Houthis) near Al-Alib camp in Qaifa directorate, northwest of Al-Bayda.

Other:
