Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Raqqa:

Left over Islamic State’s improvised explosive device wounded three children in Hisham ibn Abdul Malik neighborhood of the city of Raqqa.

Idlib:

Syrian Arab Army captured Tell Khaznah, Al-Mashad, and Muraijib al-Mashad from the rebel forces in the southern Idlib.

Hama:

Islamic State captured Rasm al-Hamam, Huwais ibn Hadib and according to some sources Qalat al-Huwais from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in the northern Hama. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s Ibaa News Agency reported destruction of Islamic State’s heavy machine gun during the clashes between the two sides at the outskirts of Qalat al-Huwais. Reports also suggest that Islamic State captured Tell Mahsar from the Syrian Arab Army.

Deir al-Zour:

Syrian Democratic Forces captured Al-Jadlah village from the Islamic State in the eastern Deir al-Zour, located northwest of the city of Gharanij. Clashes for Al-Jadlah reportedly resulted in killing of 11 fighters of the Islamic State.

Damascus:

Syrian Arab Army’s artillery shelled Ain Terma, Harasta and Jobar, while the Russian Air Force targeted Mesraba, Harasta, Arbeen, and Hammouriyah in the East Ghouta. According to the Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets), a civilian was killed and nine wounded by the Russian raids over the East Ghouta.

Syrian Arab Army made additional advances against the Ahrar al-Sham in the city of Harasta, recapturing Al-Basher hospital and surrounding area. Syrian Arab Army’s units in Harasta are now approximately 100 meters (328 feet) from breaking the siege of SAA‘s elements besieged in ‘Army Armored Vehicle Base’ and Technical Institute.

Iraq

Diyala:

Islamic State’s improvised explosive device wounded an element of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service in Al-Katoun area, west of Baqubah, according to the Amaq Agency.

Afghanistan

Faryab Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (Taliban) ambushed Afghan National Security Forces’ convoy in Topkhani Kala area of Dawlat Abad district, which resulted in heavy clashes between the two sides. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan reportedly destroyed two Afghan National Security Forces’ reinforcement vehicles, killing five elements. Afghan Air Force targeted the area where clashes were taking place and killed two fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.

Afghan Local Police’s element defected to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Gawki area of Gurziwan district.

Balkh Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan captured Afghan Local Police’s checkpoint in Shortepa district, wounding ALP‘s commander and another element in the process. Similarly, Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan raided Afghan Local Police’s checkpoint in Charbolak district, wounding two elements.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan raided Afghan National Police’s checkpoint in Charbolak district, killing two policemen. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seized two assault rifles from the killed individuals.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ambushed Afghan Local Police’s commander in Shortepa district, killing him along with one element.

Kunar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Sirkani district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device exploded in the vicinity of the Afghan National Security Forces’ convoy in Sirkani district, killing one and wounding four elements.

Nangarhar Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan repelled Afghan National Security Forces’ attack in Ghani Khel district. According to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, three elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed and another four wounded in the failed attack.

Maidan Wardak Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed three and wounded five fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the province, as well as destroyed a vehicle and 12 motorcycles.

Logar Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed one and arrested two fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Mohammad Agha district.

Paktia Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan captured three elements of the Afghan Local Police in Sayid Karam district.

Khost Province:

Afghan National Security Forces’ element was killed and another wounded in clashes with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Ali Sher district.

Ghazni Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed six and wounded four fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the province, as well as destroyed several weapons depots and ammunition caches.

Afghan National Army clashed for several hours with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan at the outskirts of the city of Ghazni. According to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, five soldiers were killed and seven wounded in the clashes, as well as three tanks destroyed with RPGs. Two fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan were wounded in the clashes.

Farah Province:

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ambushed elements of the National Directorate of Security in Shamalgah area of Farah city, killing three elements.

Urozgan Province:

Afghan National Security Forces conducted operations against the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Chora diistrict, killing 14 and wounding six fighters of the group. Furthermore, seven Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s camps were destroyed during the operations.

Zabul Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed five and wounded three fighters of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Arghandab district. Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan reported that four elements of the Afghan National Security Forces were killed during the clashes in Sheno Tato area of Arghandab district.

Helmand Province:

Afghan National Security Forces killed one fighter of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and destroyed a vehicle in Nahri Saraj district.

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s improvised explosive device destroyed Afghan National Security Forces’ vehicle in Awpashak Manda area of Jerash district, killing three elements. Similarly, Afghan National Security Forces’ convoy leaving Shor Shorak area of Jerash district was targeted by an improvised explosive device, which destroyed an armored personnel carrier.

CJTF-OIR:

Between the 29th of December 2017 and the 4th of January 2018 CJTF-OIR has conducted 50 strikes in Syria. CJTF-OIR‘s main focus in Syria at the moment is Deir al-Zour-Albu Kamal region where they did 50 strikes supporting SDF‘s operations against IS destroying 20 IS fighting positions, three logistics centers, four IS vehicles, two heavy weapons, two IS headquarters, 11 IS supply routes, two IS-held buildings, two IS command and control center, four heavy machine guns, three IS tunnel entrances, an indirect fire weapon, two UAVs, three IS lines of communication, and a VBIED.

Pakistan:

Islamic State’s Amaq Agency reported an assassination of a “Shiite” and injury of another one in the city of Quetta, provincial capital of Balochistan.
