Syrian War Daily – 26th of July 2017

Hello and welcome to the 164th installment of the SWD.

Military events/news are listed below by the governorates:

Raqqa: The Syria government tiger forces today advanced on the southern side of Raqqa, taking control of atleast three villages; they are now about 55km away from Deir ez-Zor city.  Meanwhile, SDF captured a mosque in al-Shehada neighborhood. ISIS launched about three SVBIED’s in Raqqa city today. Location in Raqqa city, via Nathan Ruser on twitter: Raqqa situation (26.07.17)

Aleppo: During an attack today, Ahrar al-Sham and other factions claimed to have taken control of the village of Tell Jihan, but this was denied by the SDF. In the evening, Ahrar then proclaimed to have withdrawn from their positions in the village. It is unknown whether they actually entered the village or not. Meanwhile, heavy artillery struck rebel positions west of Aleppo city. Reconstruction of schools and ancient buildings continues in Aleppo city.

Lebanon/Syria border: Heavy clashes continued today in the outskirts of Arsal region. No major advance was reported today, but HTS claims to have taken out several Hezbollah vehicles and it released pictures of a downed drone. There are also rumours that a deal will soon be reached for HTS.

Damascus: The Russian military demanded Faylaq al-Rahman and HTS to leave east Ghouta in response to their recent shelling of the Russian embassy in Damascus. Humanitarian aid was delivered by Russia to the needy in the city.

Daraa/Suweida: Russia has recently deployed military police to areas near the Golan Heights, where the units are performing safety missions on joint SAA-Russia checkpoints.



On the 26th of July 2017 CJTF-OIR has conducted 25 strikes in Syria. CJTF-OIR‘s main focus in Syria at the moment is Raqqa region where they did 24 strikes, supporting SDF‘s operations against IS destroying observation points, fighting positions, a VBIED and more.

Another strike was carried out on ISIL oil infrastructure near Deir ez-Zor. Full report on CJTF-OIR strikes conducted in both Syria & Iraq can be found here.
